Women’s Health is a Workplace Issue
Why Companies Should Care about Women's Health
Â
Focusing on women’s hormonal health (and the digestive systems that support it) is investing in employee retention, engagement, and long-term company success.
Â
Here are a few facts relating to the workplace:Â
- Hormonal health is one of the most underestimated drivers of workplace performance. Menstrual symptoms, perimenopause, and menopause can derail focus, energy, and consistency.
- Silent struggles (PMS, hot flashes, fatigue, bloating, brain fog) show up as presenteeism, costing far more than visible sick days.
- Digestive health is a major piece of the hormone puzzle. Poor gut function affects estrogen clearance, stress response, and energy—showing up as lost productivity.
- Flexible policies and workplace education reduce stigma, improve performance, and help employees advocate for their health.
Â
How Hormonal Health affects the WorkplaceÂ
The Impact in Numbers:
Â
Did you know that;
- Women show a 33% drop in productivity during menstrual periods, with most of the loss coming from presenteeism (working when physically or mentally unwell) rather than sick days.
- 80% of women work through symptoms at reduced capacity, while only 14% take time off—highlighting how hidden the cost really is.
- Women with menstrual disorders account for up to $456 in lost productivity per woman per week.Â
- 10% lower earnings within 4 years for women treated for menopause-related symptoms.
- Nearly 1 in 10 women quit due to menopause symptoms, and another 20% consider it.
- IBS reduces productivity by 15–21%, equating to working only 4 full days out of a 5-day workweek.
 - Digestive conditions cost employers up to $140 billion in healthcare annually, and employees miss or underperform for at least 11 days per month due to GI symptoms. Â
Â
- 67% of employees with GI issues want workplace support, but many feel uncomfortable talking about it.
Nomination Made Easy

Good morning
I would like to nominate Sarah Bishop and Meredith Paci, Founders of Fortify Health Coaching, to lead a lunch and learn session on Women’s Health and Wellness. Their coaching focuses on what women were never taught but should know about their bodies, especially their menstrual cycle, PMS, perimenopause, and menopause.
They connect the dots between digestion, hormones (reproductive, thyroid, etc), stress, and energy to help women understand how their cycle impacts their daily life and more importantly their long-term health. The session could highlight why the menstrual cycle is considered a vital sign, how to distinguish “normal” versus “not normal,” how this will change and what women can do to better advocate for themselves through different phases of life.
These insights are relevant not only for women employees but also for colleagues and leaders to understand, helping to create a more supportive and informed workplace culture. In addition to speaking engagements, Sarah and Mere provide free resources, blogs, and podcast episodes through Fortify Health Coaching, making this information accessible to a wider audience.
