Guiding Your Whey

Grass-fed, Rice, Hemp, Vegan, whey, Casein, Egg white, Meal Replacements; There are so many types of protein sources! Today we are going to chat about Whey!

Whey is a component (protein) of Dairy

There are different levels to Whey Protein based on their filtration. I’ll mention 3 below.

(None of which are necessarily bad nor good. What you select depends on you and your needs. )

  • Whey Protein Concentrate: Less filtered. think of this as a blend it contains about 70-80% protein

  • Whey Protein Isolate : More filtered . contain about 85-90% protein

  • Whey Protein Hydrolysate: The Most filtered. can be either a concentrate or isolate

The next layer to selection would be the Quality Manufacturing & Testing of the Provider itself.

Just because something says “Whey Protein Isolate” does not mean it is from a quality company which sadly is hard to truly know. Something to consider is that other ingredients such as sweeteners, binders/thickeners can cause quite the gastric issue for some.

Whey Protein Isolate is virtually lactose & Casein Free (another component of dairy). Which means more protein per gram. A Whey Complex/Concentrate is less filtered, so they contain higher amounts of lactose, some fat & some carbs, although small.. which is not a bad thing!

When selecting a Protein Powder be sure that:

  • It contains All Essential Amino Acids

  • The majority of Calories is coming from Protein

  • It contains minimal Ingredients ( 1-5 , no fillers )

  • It digests Well

  • It is serving the Desired goal

  • The company undergoes 3rd party testing (you may want to consider specifically NSF Certified for sport or Informed Sport), does on-site inspections is a great bonus.

Whey Protein has many benefits:

  • Promotes retention & growth of lean muscle

  • Promotes cardiovascular health

  • Benefits with blood sugar

  • antioxidants

  • & more

Lastly, protein powder is NOT meant to replace ALL food, nor is it ideal to make up the majority of your daily nutrition. Protein powder is meant to supplement your day.

Hope this helps guide your WHEY!
